‘Multilingual literacy-based knowledge creates strong connections between countries, cultures and languages’
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday emphasized on improving the communication skills of Bangladeshi children and youths by creating opportunities to learn literacy in their mother tongue as well as one or more languages.
In a message on the occasion of International Literacy Day, he said, "Our children, adolescents and youth need to improve their communication skills by creating opportunities to learn one or more languages in addition to acquiring literacy in their mother tongue."
The Chief Adviser said that knowledge based on multilingual literacy creates strong connections between countries, cultures and languages.
"By enhancing our communication skills, the quality of life of individuals, development and peace of the country will be accelerated," he said, pointing out that this year's Literacy Day theme points towards achieving this.
This year the theme of the day is "Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace."
Like other countries of the world, Bangladesh is also celebrating 'International Literacy Day-2024' on 8th September.
Referring to education as one of the basic human rights, Professor Muhammad Yunus said that education is the main tool of nation building.
He added, "Both formal and non-formal education programs are essential to build an illiteracy-free Bangladesh."
He said that the main objective of celebrating International Literacy Day is to make the people of the country aware and enthusiastic about education and literacy and transform them into human resources.
The Chief Adviser said that education is the main driving force of nation building and the first step of education is literacy.
"Hopefully, the concerned public and private organizations will always strive to implement the program and take effective steps to achieve the goal of literacy and ensure quality education for all," he added.
Professor Muhammad Yunus called upon all concerned to work together with the people.
He wished success in all the programs undertaken on the occasion of "International Literacy Day-2024".
